It's been two fucking years since I created this bot.
So it's time for an update. I thought long and hard about whether it was worth it, but in the end I decided yes. So from now on, this bot will run on a simplified roleplaying system based on GURPS.
It's a simple dice-based system where every action has a chance of success or failure. An even more simplified version is used here to avoid confusion for the AI. Your character has Attributes (Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Health - starting at 10) and Skills (combat, survival, etc. - starting at 0). To do something difficult, you roll 4 six-sided dice (4d6) and add any penalties (like being hungry or tired). If the result is less than or equal to your Effective Skill (Attribute + Skill Level), you succeed.
The exact formula:
Effective Skill = Attribute + Skill Level (if trained) + or - Modifiers
Roll: 4d6 ≤ (Effective Skill) → Success
Critical success: rolling 4–5 (amazing result)
Critical failure: rolling 23–24 (disaster — gun jams, you trip, hurt yourself, or risk infection)
Hunger and sleepiness make things harder. The hungrier or more exhausted you are, the bigger the penalty - which means you add +1, +2, +3 or even +4 to your dice roll. Since you need to roll low to succeed, a higher roll means you fail much more often. Bottom line: eat and sleep, or you're dead.
If you get infected, the game won't stop. I committed a mortal sin and put an instruction in the Character's Note that really should have been in the preset. Because of this, the AI now also generates GM descriptions in the Crossed style. So instead of just "a woman in a business suit" you'll see "a FUCKING business BITCH whose sight makes your cock BURN and SCREAMS at you to cut her tits off!!!!"
Another important change is the rewritten bot structure and, most importantly, the lorebook. I think trusting the AI to generate all the characters makes them incredibly boring and repetitive. So now you don't exist in a vacuum - you live in the city of Naperville, not far from Chicago.
In Naperville, you'll find around forty characters - from cops and office clerks to students and drunks at the bar. Some of them I worked out better than others, I'll be honest, but I think I'll be making some more adjustments over the next little while. They all already have some dark secrets, so the epidemic will simply bring out the shitty sides that were already inside them (at least that’s the idea)
That's why many greetings start 3 days before the outbreak. You can talk to different characters, make friends, play in a "normal world" and watch how it all ends in a couple of days and your new acquaintances, with varying probability, will get infected and become dangerous.
As for those who were waiting for Wish You Were Here... damn, I think I'll have to make a separate lorebook. If you look inside the current one, you'll see that all entries start with "Naperville_" That's because I originally planned to stuff the WYWH characters in here too. But I decided not to, because I was afraid the characters would start mixing. So I'll either make a separate bot or a separate lorebook for it.
